This Paul Davis Difference Maker Is No Quitter, No Matter What the Challenge

Good habits formed during youth often make a lifetime of difference. A great example is Layne Gammill, a 21-year old water technician with Paul Davis in Central Mississippi. With just over two years of field experience under his belt, tackling mold, sewage and other nasty water-damage jobs, he was recently recognized during the Paul Davis 2023 annual conference as a true Difference Maker. Layne explains. “The father of a good friend of mine got me an interview with Paul Davis a few years ago. I confessed during the interview I was short on experience but long on tackling new challenges. I could tell as soon as I joined - this was going to be a good company to work for.”

So when an emergency call came in recently from a local American Cancer Society facilities manager, Layne stepped up to the challenge. A plumber on-site had become overwhelmed working to clear waste pipes clogged by wipes disposed in 2nd floor restrooms. Unable to stanch and capture the cacading sewage flow with only trash cans, Layne quickly drove to the site with specialized water extraction equipment. “It was a nasty job that took 4 hours to extract the water, clean up the waste, and help contain the source flow despite the struggles of the plumber," says Layne. “A standard strip of toilet paper should dissolve entirely within 24 hours. Unfortunately, wipes can take weeks to disintegrate completely,” he adds.

The facilities manager was duly impressed and Paul Davis' diligence didn’t go unnoticed. With as many as six other companies in the vicinity who could have handled the emergency call and then several return visits to clean and restore damaged ceilings, floors and walls, Paul Davis quality work and willingness to go above and beyond the customer’s expectations was amply rewarded when the facility manager recommended to American Cancer Society upper management that they utilize other Paul Davis offices throughout the USA.

Paul Davis of Central Mississippi Water Technician Layne Gammill has quickly gained a reputation as a go-getter. When asked what he’d like to do in the future, his response? “Our company motto is The Difference Makers™.  I really like my work here. I’d like to advance and learn to be an estimator. If I can also do that well, maybe someday I can advance to the job of general manager.”
